Understanding Green Design and Sustainable Design Distinctions

The terms Green Design and Sustainable Design are often are interchanged but there is a distinction between the two.

Green Design implies protecting people’s health and well-being (e.g. improved indoor air quality and the use of non-toxic cleaners) through the use of natural products, safer procedures, and the like.

Sustainable Design implies reducing the environmental impact (e.g., forest protection and alternative energy sources) from the manufacture and use of products.  Many say it is meeting the needs of today without compromising the needs of future generations.

Kitchen Studio of Naples (KSN) makes every effort to provide products that meet the needs of our customers.  Our bamboo cabinetry is constructed of plywood free of urea-formaldehyde (UF).  The new adhesive, made from a soya flour formula, is also beneficial in increasing the plywood’s resistance to humidity.  As part of the manufacturer’s efforts to reduce their environmental impact their wood shavings are recycled.

More information can be obtained by consulting with a KSN designer.
